This Post Caused My AMSOIL Dealership To Be Terminated By AMSOIL!
As I write this article, I confess, I
am WAS one pissed off AMSOIL Dealer. This post caused AMSOIL to terminate my dealership. You Don’t own anything with a dealership, they can terminate your dealership for being honest.
If you think this article is to sell you on becoming a dealer, you couldn’t be more wrong. Seriously … There’s going to be a lot of dirt in this article. If you HATE AMSOIL, you might love this article …
Don’t Be Humiliated By Not Having All The Facts!
So you join AMSOIL and tell all your friends (warm market), and then suddenly find out you were fed a bunch of bull by your sponsor … it happens … all the time.
Now you have to explain to your family that you dropped $1,000 into a business and make only pennies every month. Don’t be that person!
Get the facts straight from a pissed off dealer who has seen the darkest and deepest pits of the AMSOIL business. Get the facts from someone who doesn’t give a shit if they lose their dealership.
I have awakened and I am pissed! Yes, I am really that pissed off!
You are probably thinking, this guy has a beef with AMSOIL … and you would be right. I do, and as you will learn, there are some dirty secrets about the AMSOIL business model you MUST have if you want to make an informed decision.
Stop reading if you don’t want the faction about AMSOIL Dealerships, I could care less … If you’re still reading, then you’re one of the smart ones who wants all the facts before you throw your money away.
So here is your last chance to stop reading because it’s going to get ugly.
You’re going to learn the truth, and sometimes people can’t handle the truth… okay, one last chance to stop reading …
Oh, you’re still here, okay, so let’s get started.
I Have Been An AMSOIL Dealer Since 2009, And I Am Pissed Off.
You usually don’t get the truth until someone is pissed off … it’s true. Think about it, once someone is pissed off, they spill the beans. The beans are a spilling …
Sure, I will add in a little more negative information because I am pissed, but what I am about to share is what you need to know so you don’t end up pissed, or worse.
Where should we start? How about a little history?
I have been a dealer since 2009 and I have 94 … I mean 93 people in my down line … we’ll get to that later.
You can find more about my history with AMSOIL all over this site, so now …
Let Me Be Brutally Honest With You … I HATE AMSOIL …
Hate. That’s a pretty harsh statement, but it’s honestly how I feel about AMSOIL. Will that change, maybe, but probably not.
I have a very large ax to grind, and a grinding is what I am going to do. And lucky you, you get all the negatives about AMSOIL, and I get a huge weight off my chest. Win/win …
It’s 100% true, I may lose my dealership for telling you all this, but it’s a chance I am willing to take. Integrity has to mean something … right? And what about revenge, that’s gotta account for something … right? RIGHT??
Revenge is certainly sweet, and although I am pissed off, I am not out for revenge. I am out to educate anyone who will listen about AMSOIL Dealerhsips. I don’t want you to end up like me!
The fact is, I don’t really give a shit if I lose my AMSOIL Dealership (See, I told you I was pissed) … You’re probably thinking it’s because I don’t make money …
Nope, I make money, every. single. month.
That sounds great you’re probably thinking, so what could possibly be wrong with AMSOIL?
Alright, you are clearly aware, I am pissed off, so why don’t I just tell you …
Why I Am A Pissed Off AMSOIL Dealer … A Short Story …
Like you today, in 2009 I was looking for a way to make some money. I didn’t have much money to invest, and I didn’t have any sales experience, basically I was clueless …
I was in the market to find an extended oil drain motor oil, and AMSOIL is what interested me. I decided to sign up as a dealer as a way to get dealer prices and make a little money on the side …
I jumped on the phone to call a dealer and the dealer tried to up sell me. I hung up, and just headed over to the AMSOIL Website and signed up as a dealer.
So let’s star to turn the screws. Here is why I am a pissed off AMSOIL Dealer.
- AMSOIL Seems to favor large dealers over small dealers (you are not valued as a small dealer).
- AMSOIL Dealers stab each other in the back and interfere with other dealers without repercussion from corporate (see #1).
- Hidden AMSOIL Dealer fees. (AMSOIL makes money at the expense of the dealers).
- AMSOIL Is over priced and overrated. (Yes, this is a tough little pill to swallow, but more people are realizing it and waking up).
- It’s very difficult to make much money selling motor oil. (Go ahead, ask any sponsor or dealer how much the make, net, and you will get crickets).
To be blunt, AMSOIL Dealers are the used car salesperson of the motor oil world. So which one of the above am I the most pissed off about? #1 and #2.
But, before we get to those, let’s cover the others first …
Hidden AMSOIL Dealer Fees …
I have always been annoyed with the Hidden AMSOIL Dealer Fees, but I tried to ignore them. But since I am pissed off, I am going to grind that ax a little more.
So here are some of the hidden fees I have found.
AMSOIL has something they call the “Premium Dealer Zone”. Basically, it’s a bunch of graphs telling you how many customers you have, sales, etc. Basically, you’re going to need this or you will be lost. So you pay your annual dealership dues, and now you have to pay your so called “Premium Dealer Zone” dues of $9.95 a month.
Again, you don’t have to have the “Premium Dealer Zone”, but it’s nearly impossible to keep up without it. There is NO reason for AMSOIL to charge their dealers a fee for this system. It’s already programmed and it costs AMSOIL nothing at all to offer dealers.
Slightly annoying, but now if you want to have access to the “Customer Relation Manager”, that’s going to cost you an additional $39.99 a year (last time I checked). Again, nothing special about this generic system, and it would cost AMSOIL almost nothing to offer this for free.
Oh, but there is more! Just sign up right now and you also get …
To pay a $49.95 licensing fee and $9.95 a month to use the “Dealer Business System”. Do I need to go on?
What a scam. A SCAM!
So now let’s go over how …
AMSOIL Is Over Priced & Overrated …
I have thought about this for a while. If you don’t believe me, see this link here. You can see how I was questioning the price and quality of AMSOIL since 2013. It has annoyed me, but not pissed me off, so I kept my head down and continued to push forward …
You probably didn’t look at the link, so here, let me paste it for you here:
Cost of AMSOIL SSO Vs. Mobil One Extended Drain:
These are Dealer prices, and not general public prices.
AMSOIL PC: $20.00
AMSOIL SSO 5W-30 $7.85 per quart (Durango takes 6 quarts, but I buy an extra quart) $54.95
AMSOIL Filter: $13.75
Total AMSOIL oil change: $92.80
Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5W-30 Full Synthetic Motor Oil (True PAO Oil) 5 quart jug $26.97 at my local wallyworld! At this price I am buying two!
Mobil 1 Extended Oil Filter $12.99
We will call it an even $50.00 with taxes and an extra quart! Did I miss something? Can you really get a true PAO oil, extended filter, and pay nearly half of what you would pay if you used AMSOIL?
My AMSOIL dealership is up this month, in about 9 days, and I think I may not renew. Don’t get me wrong, AMSOIL, makes some great products, but I honestly cannot say that the extra cost, nearly double, is worth it? Hell NO!
From what I understand, the Mobil 1 Extended Performance Oil is a true PAO. I have not verified this fact though, but if it is a true PAO oil, then it might even be better than AMSOIL!
Since I change my oil ever 12k to 15k miles anyway, I think I have just made up my mine to drop my AMSOIL dealership and move to Mobil 1.
So let’s pretend AMSOIL is better, but is it really worth the extra cost? Even if AMSOIL is better (which I have my doubts), it is NOT worth the extra cost. Have you ever heard of oil being the cause of engine failure? I haven’t.
How would you prove it? Think about that AMSOIL Warranty for a little while …
Again, this has bothered me, but it’s not what pissed me off. So let’s move on to …
How Hard Is It For You To Make Money As An AMSOIL Dealer – How Much Do AMSOIL Dealers Make?
Do you want to have some fun? Okay, here is how to have a little fun. Call up a few AMSOIL Dealers and ask them how much the make, net …
Go ahead, give it a little go. I have done this a few times and it’s always fun to hear them dodge the question.
Let me just lay it out there, it’s so difficult to make decent money with AMSOIL that many of the long term AMSOIL Dealers complain in the AMSOIL Dealer Forums. I am talking about dealers who have been selling AMSOIL for over 20 years.
It seemed like it was almost daily when a dealer in the dealer zone would ask about becoming a full time dealer. Most of the long time dealers would laugh and tell them it’s great as a “side job”.
Let’s get serious for a moment. Let me tell you exactly how much money I make. Some quick stats are in order:
- I have been a dealer since 2009.
- I have 93 customers in my down line.
- 10 of those are dealers.
- 1 is a retail account.
- The rest are preferred customers and catalog customers.
In case you don’t know, that’s a good amount of customers in my down line. So I must be raking in the cash … right?
On a good month I will make a whopping $200, on a bad month I make $0.
So I make a little money every month, and I have probably invested over $1,000 into my dealership. I have not yet broken even, but maybe in another 10 years or so I will?? I won’t hold my breath.
Although this was annoying, again I put my head down and pushed on.
But here is the straw that broke the camel’s back.
AMSOIL Dealers Stab Each Other In The Back While Corp Looks The Other Way …
Of all the things to push me over the edge, this is the one to do so.
It’s not so bad that AMSOIL Dealers will stab you in the back, but AMSOIL Corporate looks the other way as they do. Here is what happened to me.
So you know how I just told you how much I make each month, on a good month … I was starting to see a decent monthly income from AMSOIL. I know, I know, $200 a month is nothing, I get that, I really do, but for AMSOIL this is good …
See, I told you … you don’t make much.
Anyway, A dealer found my website (this is important, keep this in mind when reading the rest), read my article, and clicked on the link at the bottom of my page to sign up as a dealer. This was a few months ago.
Before I go on, this is so important that I have to repeat it. This dealer became a dealer after reading my article and signing up for AMSOIL! I was the reason he signed up! Pretty clear cut right? Yeah right …
The dealer was making orders, selling oil, and was my best dealer. Some other dealer started to talk with my dealer, and although I am unsure what he told him, he convinced him to change AMSOIL Sponsors.
Now tell me if I am wrong, does that not sound like a dealer interfering with another dealer? Seems clear to me … the other dealer should have told him he could not work with him and to talk to his own dealer. That would have been the right thing to do, but dealers will quickly slit your throat to steal your down line. It happens all the time, and there is NOTHING YOU CAN DO!
So this new dealer, my top dealer, asked me to release him so he could sign up under this other dealer … they had it all worked out already. Great, sounds like this other dealer was deep into interfering with my dealer …
At this point I was done with AMSOIL. No more putting my head down and pushing forward …
Now I Fight Back!
I shot off an email to AMSOIL thinking this would be a clear case of a dealer interfering with my down line and here was the reply:
(Emphasis added by me)
Good Morning Bob,
We were contacted by Dealer ***** ***** last week. He had stated that he wanted to correct his sponsor as he had not entered in his sponsor’s referral when he initially signed up. We show that he went through your website when he registered and had been assigned to you because of this. We asked him to contact you in regards to this however he stated that he did not know who you were and wasn’t sure how he had been assigned to you.
We take every sponsor change request that we receive seriously. Every situation is reviewed on a case by case basis. Since **** had not been actively working with you, there is no indication of tampering by another Dealer in this case.
If you have any additional questions you may contact your Regional Sales Manager, Eric Brandenburg.
Basically she told me to go f myself … and now I can’t help but fight back with all I have. I am only getting started …
So what do I advise you to do if you are looking to become an AMSOIL Dealer?
RUN!! RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN!
So if you are still here, you may still be thinking this AMSOIL thing is for you. I am here to help you get started on the right foot, but don’t say I didn’t warn you later. Full disclosure here …
